Imagine new futures for Child Welfare in Texas.

Goals for gathering your input:

  • Leaders hear about problems with “the system” all the time. What they need are solutions. Who better to imagine a new future for child welfare than YOU! With your voice, we hope to advocate for equitable, supportive solutions for families.

  • We aim to elevate the voices of caregivers with lived experience as the driving force for policy change to support instead of hinder family thriving.

  • As is, the child welfare system perpetuates trauma. It retraumatizes children and abuses families and workers. In order to improve outcomes for traumatized children, caregivers must themselves be treated in trauma-informed ways.

If you’re any type of foster parent in Texas, we want to hear your story!

Child welfare should focus on supporting families, but it often stays preoccupied with problems, regulations, and compliance. By elevating your voice and story, we hope to create a clear vision and way forward that actually supports child and parent success.

To do this, we have created surveys that focus on you, the foster parent. Perhaps it has been too long since you’ve been able to consider new possibilities within the child welfare system. Now is the time to dream again.

  • If the system was designed to truly support you, what would it look like?

  • What does support for parents caring for traumatized children entail?

  • What are your greatest areas of need, and how would you envision those needs being met?

We believe that the system cannot provide adequate, relevant support without talking to the people who are providing care (that’s YOU)!

This initiative is an ongoing process, and we appreciate your input in this initial gathering of important information: your voice and experience!

Texas Foster Parent Survey

I believe that to improve foster care, you have to involve foster parents in system design. But, foster parents rarely have a seat at the table. That ends now.

This survey is the first step in building an ongoing feedback loop for foster parents to share their experiences with various influential leaders.

If you don't feel like you have the mental/emotional capacity to fill out this form in detail, please email Constanza, and she can do a short interview over the phone.

Anonymous Foster Parent Survey

There are aspects of foster parenting that we can't share publicly either for fear of reprisal or because it would overshare our children's stories. This is an opportunity for you to anonymously share the unspoken challenges of foster/adoptive parenting so that system designers can better support caregivers and children in care. 

To keep your story anonymous, please change/remove any potentially identifying information such as names, birthdates, addresses, etc.
